This Christmas, 350 people from Ukraine, Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Fiji or Philippines will gratefully receive their shoeboxes full of goodies from people in Young and district.

Operation Christmas Child coordinator for the region, Lyn Walker said those people included staff and students from Murringo and Monteagle Public Schools along with church and other community groups.

“The children will certainly be excited to know that someone took the time to show that they care for them by packing these shoeboxes and sending them through Operation Christmas Child this year,” Ms Walker said.

“The boxes were packed with wonderful gifts that really demonstrated that we wanted to give the children who are less fortunate than ourselves the hope and joy of Christmas.”

“Recently, Bruce and I had the opportunity to travel to Sydney and be a part of the final sorting and processing of the shoeboxes prior to being placed into cartons and then into containers for shipping to their respective countries.”

“It was a wonderful experience to see the bigger picture in this part of the whole process - it was amazing.”

The people who paid for the handling cost online for their shoebox would have received a barcode to be pasted onto their shoebox allowing the boxes to be followed to their final destination.

“With the shoeboxes I did, I have already received emails back saying that some of my boxes are on their way to Cambodia,” Ms Walker said.

“Thank you again to all the businesses and community groups for your donations and contributions you have made to this wonderful project.”

“Also, a big thank you to support received from Windscreen Professionals and St John’s Anglican Church office for being willing to be collection locations for the shoeboxes.”

“And a big thank you to Bryan Dorman Transport for transporting our shoeboxes to Sydney this year.”
