The Young Mosque committee has been working hard preparing for one of the biggest events on their annual calendar.
The National Mosque Open Day will take place on Saturday, October 28, and the committee has invited the whole community to visit the Mosque at 3524 Moppity Road, Young from 10 am to 3 pm, meet the friendly volunteer team and find out a little more about the history of Islam in the region.
Everyone from the broader community is welcome to attend, from the police, firies, ambos and emergency services groups to Council members, school principals and teachers.
Spokesperson for the Young Mosque Committee, Abdullah Sultan said the open day was a way for them to keep the bridge they had been working hard to build and maintain with the broader community over the past 16 months strong and active and perhaps open a dialogue platform.
“We are always deeply appreciative and thankful to be a part of such an incredible and diverse region,” Mr Sultan said.
“Working with the broader community is a work in progress.”
“We had to work on establishing relationships within our community first.”
The committee has just invested in a Mosque pop-up booth and are in negotiations with local markets so that they can get out among the people and answer any questions they may have.
“We have also improved the mosque infrastructure substantially and made a new, more youth-focused education program,” Mr Sultan said.
They will be holding a Ramadan Iftar each year, where they will invite Council members, police, local MPs and school Principals and staff among other community events still in the pipeline.
For now, put aside some time to check out the Mosque Open Day and enjoy a barbecue lunch on October 28.
