Congratulations to the Grade 4 Open Pennant side on winning the Zone 8 Finals on Sunday at Temora. Conditions at Temora were very cold but fortunately there were only one or two light and short showers during the day.
After a couple of late changes to the side on Saturday afternoon due to illness the teams were Harold Anderson, Elsie Hines, Neal Hines and Damien Miller; Jono Watson, Ian Schofield, Cliff Traynor and David Quigley and Geoff Holt, Darryle Miller, George Somerville and Peter Watts.
In the morning game Young got away to a good start against Culcairn and despite a strong comeback by Culcairn the result was a win to Young 60 shots to 51.
In the individual games Damien Miller defeated Darryl Lawson 24–15, David Quigley defeated Jim Lee 20–19 and Peter Watts lost to David Trebley 16–17.
By winning this game Young qualified to play in the final against Hay who had a bye in the morning round.
The first half of the match saw a fairly even contest but the Young side outscored Hay in the latter stages to win by 70 shots to 40.
Damien Miller defeated James Ovens 19–14, David Quigley defeated John Lucas 30–16 and Peter Watts defeated Damien Crocker 19–14.

Young has now qualified for the BNSW State Finals in Grade 4 that will be played in Tamworth on 30th June to 2nd July.
Young hosted the Zone 8 Grade 7 Open Pennant Finals on Saturday and Sunday.
Six clubs playing in two sections of three contested the finals.
Conditions were very good on Saturday but the cold and wet conditions on Sunday were quite challenging.
In Section A the results for Saturday’s games were The Rock 86 defeated Barellan 54 and Tumbarumba 72 defeated Barellan 62. The latter game was much closer for most of the time but two ends where Tumbarumba scored 11 shots gave them the advantage and they held on to win.
Tumbarumba played The Rock on Sunday morning. The Rock won two games 18–17 and 17–16 but a 24–10 win by Tumbarumba on the third rink gave them a win and put them into the final.
In Section B Wagga Rules defeated Boorowa Ex–Services 57–52 on Saturday morning and West Wyalong S&C defeated Boorowa Ex–Services 56–52 in the afternoon.
The West Wyalong Club proved too strong for Wagga Rules on Sunday morning with a 65–53 win.
In the final Tumbarumba won two of the three games against West Wyalong to record a 65–58 win.
Thanks to those club members who helped make this event a success. This includes Damien Miller, Cliff Traynor, Stuart Freudenstein, Martin Betcher and Bill Maloney for their umpiring.

At Young on Thursday 19 players were on the green in sunny and warm conditions. Les Fanning, Albert Carter and Cliff Traynor won the vouchers with a margin of 13 shots. Brian McNair, Milan Brankovic and George O’Neil won their game by 10 shots.
Alan Langford and John Cooper had a winning margin of 6 shots and Steve Walsh and Tom Preston won their game by 4 shots.
There were just 10 players on Saturday afternoon.
The vouchers went to Albert Carter and John Cooper with a winning margin of 15 shots. Glen Seward, Greg Woods and Les Fanning won their game by 10 shots.
