Play for the week commenced on Thursday with just 12 players for the afternoon’s Jackpot bowls.

All three games of pairs were closely contested with the highest winning margin being 7 shots for Harold Anderson and Ian Schofield.

In the other two games Brian McNair and John Cooper won their game 22–17 and Tom Preston and Joe Bargwanna won their game 17–15.

There were two Championship games on Saturday – one in the Mixed Pairs and one in the Minor Singles.

Jill and Denis Rosen played Lisa and Russell Boyd in a semi–final of the Mixed Pairs.

Lisa and Russell won 6 of the first 8 ends to establish a lead of 13–6 but after 12 ends Jill and Denis had cut the margin back to 2 shots and trailed 12–14.

After 16 ends Jill and Denis were still 2 shots behind at 16–18 but Lisa and Russell scored a maximum of 8 shots on the 17th end to lead 26–16 and they went on to win 28–18.

In a semi–final of the Minor Singles Colin Stokell was opposed to Ted Loader.

Colin won the first 7 ends to lead 9–0 and after 14 ends he had increased his lead to 15–3.

Ted then won 5 of the next 6 ends to trail 13–16 but Colin proved too strong from that point to win the game 25–14.

Colin will play Mark Brownlie in the final of this event on Saturday and they have arranged to start at 12 noon.

Saturday’s Jackpot play also saw a further 16 players involved in four games of pairs.

The winning teams for the afternoon were Tom Preston and Ian Schofield 27–17, Mark Brownlie and Joe Read 30–13, Colin Chapman and Steve Joliffe 30–13 and Harold Anderson and Vic Brown 19–14.

After a count–back Colin and Steve were the winners of the vouchers.
