Playing Ditch Weight

Three first–round games of the Club Pairs Championship were played on Saturday afternoon.

Harold Anderson and Glen Benson played Andrew Hutchison and Joe Read and after 13 ends Harold and Glen led 10–9. From that point on they won nearly all of the ends to take out the game 24–10.

Steve Walsh (playing as a substitute) and Peter Watts won 5 of the first 6 ends against Glen Seward and Brian Christie to lead 15–1. Glen and Brian then won 4 consecutive ends to trail 8–15.

With fairly even scoring in the second half of the game Steve and Peter won 27–18.

The first half of the game in which Scott Douglas and John Cooper played Albert Carter and Colin Stokell was dominated by Scott and John and they led 16–4 after 11 ends.

Albert and Colin won 6 of the next 7 ends and they were behind 18–14 after 18 ends. The final score was 24–14 in favour of Scott and John.

There were 16 other players on the greens on Saturday afternoon.

The winners of the four games played were Garry Trudgett and Les Fanning 24–19, Darryle Miller and Brian Madden 31–20, Alan Langford and Colin Chapman 21–19 and Milan Brankovic and Ian Schofield 26–11.

The return of winter weather for Thursday saw just 8 players involved.

Albert Carter and Michael Webb won their game by 2 shots and Tom Preston and Glen Benson won their game by 1 shot.

Unfortunately, the Sunday Funday set down for 8th October was cancelled due to insufficient entries.

The remaining games of the Club Pairs are scheduled to be played this weekend.

The following games are to be played on Saturday afternoon – Jonathon Watson and Peter Watts to play Damien Miller and David Quigley, Chris Wright and Tony Ruhl to play Harold Anderson and Glen Benson, Geoff Holt and George Somerville to play Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor and Michael Webb and Les Fanning to play Scott Douglas and John Cooper.

The semi–finals will be played on Sunday morning and the final on Sunday afternoon.

Players who entered the Zone 8 Fours and Singles Championships are advised that the draws for the sectional rounds of both competitions are on the notice board.

The games in the Fours Championship will be played on the 21st and the 22nd of October and the sectional games for the Singles on the 28th and the 29th of October.
