Peter Watts – Winner of the Zone 8 Senior Singles Championship.

Congratulations to Peter Watts on winning the Zone 8 Senior Singles Championship.

The finals of all three divisions of the Singles Championship were played at Temora B&R Club over the weekend. To avoid the hottest part of the day play started at 9.30 am on Saturday and 8.30 am on Sunday.

There were six qualifiers for the finals of the Senior division and on Saturday Peter defeated Rod Cramp (Wagga Rules) 25–18.

On Sunday morning Peter played Richard Durnan (Narrandera) and won 25–13.

In the final Peter defeated Phil Wallace (Cootamundra Ex–Services) 25–14 and has qualified for the State Finals to be played at Dubbo in March 2024.

Young had two players involved in the finals of the Open Reserve division and both were eliminated on Saturday. Glen Benson lost 25–15 to Ron Tarbit (Temora Ex–Services) and Albert Carter lost to Brian Harris (Leeton and District) 25–14.

Ron Tarbit went on to win the championship.

Corey Hazell (Junee) was the winner of the State division and defeated John Ingram (Narrandera) 25–23 in the final.

There were only a small number of entries for Jackpot play on both Thursday and Saturday.

Play started at 10 am on both days due to the very hot conditions. On Thursday there were just 10 players involved.

Brian McNair, Chris Wright and Ian Schofield won their game 24–13 to claim the vouchers and Albert Carter and Joe Bargwanna won their game 23–17.

There were 8 players on Saturday and both games had a 3 shot margin. Milan Brankovic and Tom Preston won their game 17–14 and Glen Seward and Les Fanning won their game 19–16.

After an exhaustive count–back Glen and Les were the voucher winners.

This week saw the final standard round for the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge.

The winners on Tuesday night were Rusty Horse and the overall winners for the Tuesday night division were TGs.

On Thursday night the best score was 15 points for the FATBBOTS team and they were also the overall winners for this division.

The TGs and FATBBOTS will play off on Thursday night in the final of this competition. All other teams who would like to play on that night are welcome to do so.

Thanks to the organisers of these two nights of bowls (Ian Schofield and Cliff Traynor) and to those who assisted – especially on Thursdays. Thanks also to the more than 70 players who participated for their friendly manner and good sportsmanship.
