Unfortunately, the Young club will not have any teams competing in the Zone 8 Triples Championship Finals to be held at Young on 18th and 19th November.
Each of the teams from Young that entered these events were defeated in the sectional rounds by the section winners.
The State Division games were played at Temora and on Saturday afternoon Jono Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley defeated the Cootamundra Ex–Services team skipped by John Harriott 24–16.
On Sunday morning the Young team lost 20–21 to Darren Walker, Matt McComber and Brett White from Wagga RSL. Brett White’s team went on to defeat Arty Stacey’s team from Temora Ex–Services 23–13 in the sectional final.
The Open Reserve Division was also played at Temora and on Saturday Michael Webb, Les Fanning and Glen Benson won their game 27–15 against the West Wyalong team skipped by Anthony Kennedy.
On Sunday morning Glen’s team lost 24–21 to Trevor Gadd, Mick Owers and Dennis Melmoth from Barmedman. The Barmedman team went on the win the sectional final 26–18 against Terry McDonald’s team from Cootamundra Ex–Services Club.
With only three teams competing in the Senior Division the first game was played at Young on Sunday morning. This game saw Wayne Foote, Bevan Krause and Bruce Lack from Temora B&R defeat Bob New, Geoff Manwaring and Jim White from Cootamundra Ex–Services 28–20.
In the final on Sunday afternoon the Temora team were too consistent for Joe Bargwanna, Russell Boyd and Cliff Traynor and won 28–10. The winners for all three divisions will contest the Zone Finals for this event at Young on 18th and 19th November.
Jackpot play on Thursday afternoon saw 24 players taking part in warm conditions. The clouds came in part-way through the game but no rain fell during play. Aldo Malvicino and Geoff Holt won their game by 15 shots to claim the vouchers for the day.
Steven Hankins and Denis Rosen had a winning margin of 12 shots, Albert Carter and Colin Stokell won their game by 10 shots and Craig Watson and Brian McNair finished with a margin of 8 shots.
Two teams – Andrew Hutchison and Joe Bargwanna and Steve Walsh and Les Fanning – won their games by the barest margin of 1 shot.
There were just 8 players who braved the very cold conditions on Saturday afternoon with the highest apparent temperature for the day being 6 degrees.
Tom Preston and Darryle Miller won the vouchers with a margin of 10 shots and Steve Walsh and Harold Anderson won their game by 6 shots.
Players are reminded that entries for the Zone 8 Fours close on Thursday 28th September and entries for the Zone 8 Singles close on Thursday 5th October.
