It has been a quieter week for bowls this week at the Young Sporties Bowling Club.
The final of the Club Triples Championship was played on Sunday afternoon with Geoff Holt, George Somerville and Peter Watts opposed to Jono Watson, David Quigley and Damien Miller.
This was a fitting game for a final with high quality play and close scores. After 11 ends the score was 6 all – with just one score of 2 shots and 10 ends when only 1 shot was scored.
Damien’s team then won 5 of the next 6 ends to lead 16–9 but after 22 ends their lead was just 17–16. With scores of 1 and 3 on the next two ends they led 21–16 going into the final end. Peter’s team scored 1 shot on the final end for Damien’s team to win 21–17. Congratulations to the winners and to all six players on the standard of their play.
On Thursday afternoon there were 16 players involved. The vouchers went to Brian Gibson and Peter Watts with the very big margin of 22 shots. Other winners were Brian Christie and Col Chapman who won 25–14, Terry Holmes and Bob Ruhl who won 25–17 and Brian McNair and John Cooper who won 17–14.
There were just 14 players on Saturday in quite pleasant conditions. Darryle Miller and Peter Watts dominated the scoring in their game to win 38–15. Brian Christie and Tom Preston won their game 27–14 and in the triples game Greg Woods, Scott Douglas and Vic Brown won 26–19.
Congratulations to Damien Miller who won the Senior Sports Person of the Year at the recent Sports Advisory Committee Presentations. Damien was also in the winning Team of the Year along with Jonathon Watson and David Quigley. One of the team’s major achievements was to be one of the New South Wales qualifiers for the National Finals of the BPL Cup in 2022.
Players should check the notice board for details of the Club Fours Championship. Entries for this event close on Saturday 10th June.
On Saturday the club will host the finals of the Zone 8 Fours Championships. There are three divisions of the event – State, Senior and Open Reserve. All the teams competing on Saturday have already won qualifying rounds at various venues in the zone.
The semi–finals will be played on Saturday morning with the finals on Saturday afternoon. The winners of the finals will go on to contest the State Finals in July. Jono Watson, Peter Watts, Damien Miller and David Quigley will contest one of the semi–finals in the State division against a team from Lavington.
It was great to see so many people at the club on Sunday for Mother’s Day lunch and dinner. Testimony to the quality of the meals being served by Anthony and his staff.
