The Young Sporties Bowling Club hosted sectional play for the Zone 8 Singles Championships on Saturday and Sunday. A total of 19 players were involved and the winners of each of the three sections played have qualified for the Zone 8 Finals to be played at Temora on 9th and 10th December.
Saturday’s play in the Seniors Division saw Harold Anderson defeat Cliff Traynor 25–21 after the scores were 20–all after 27 ends and Peter Watts win 7 of the last 9 ends to defeat George Somerville 25–20.
On Sunday morning Peter and Harold both won their semi–final games. Peter defeated John Cooper 25–20 and Harold defeated Les Fanning 25–19. The final between Peter and Harold on Sunday afternoon was very even in the initial stages and there was only 1 shot separating them at 15–14 before Peter won the next 8 ends to win the game 25–15.
There were 3 games played in Section 1 of the Open Reserve Division on Saturday afternoon. Phil Tod (Tumut) defeated Denis Rosen 25–13, Glen Benson defeated Mandy Shoard (Tumut) 25–6 and in a very close game throughout Brian Gibson (Harden) defeated Tom Preston 25–22.
Sunday morning saw two decisive wins when Glen Benson defeated Joe Read 25-12 and Phil Tod defeated Brian Gibson 25–12. Glen Benson continued his good form on Sunday afternoon to win 25–12 over Phil Tod.
The results for the two games played in Section 2 of the Open Reserve Division on Saturday were that David Large (Cootamundra Ex–Services) defeated Cary Peters (Harden) 25–8 and in a really close game Michael Webb scored 3 shots on the final end to defeat Les Abric (Tumut) 25–22.
Michael had a very close game against David Large on Sunday morning and once again scored 3 shots on the final end to win 25–21. In the other semi–final Albert Carter defeated Brian Christie 25–12. Albert continued his good form into Sunday afternoon when he defeated Michael 25–13.
Thanks to all the club members who gave up their time over the weekend to act as markers and umpires to ensure the smooth operation of this event.
In local play there were 18 players involved on Thursday afternoon. Chris Wright and Tony Ruhl played well to win their game by 17 shots. Other winners and their margins were Brian Gibson and John Cooper (3 shots), Brian Christie and Denis Rosen (9 shots) and Andrew Hutchison, Alan Langford and Steven Hankins (7 shots).
There were 14 teams playing in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge on Tuesday night and Bokko’s team were the winners with 17 points. Ten teams played on Thursday night with FATBBOTS being the winners with 18 points.
There were 10 players taking part in Jackpot Bowls on Saturday afternoon and both games had big winning margins. Ted Loader and Vic Brown won their game by 22 shots and Max Penfold, Scott Douglas and Greg Woods won by 17 shots.
There will be a bowls afternoon on Tuesday 7th November – Melbourne Cup Day.
All the details are on display at the club and entries close at 12 noon on Tuesday.
