On Thursday after a promising start to the day the conditions for play in the afternoon were much colder than anticipated.

Just 14 players took part in cloudy conditions.

Two of the three games had a winning margin of 15 shots and after a count-back the vouchers for the day went to Brian Christie and Ian Schofield.

The other team who won by 15 shots was Harold Anderson and Peter Watts.

The triples game saw the scores level at 19–all with one end to play.

Steve Walsh, Les Fanning and Tom Preston came away the winners by 20–19 when they scored 1 shot on the final end.

In a semi–final of the Mixed Pairs Championship played on Saturday afternoon John and Kate Cooper were too consistent for Sonia Ingall and David Quigley and took out the game 21–7.

There were also 18 men who played Jackpot Bowls on Saturday.

Brian Christie continued his good form and he and Tony Ruhl won their game by 19 shots to claim the vouchers for the day.

In the other games Les Fanning and Jono Watson won their game by 11 shots, Albert Carter and Peter Watts won by 6 shots and Michael Webb, Steve Walsh and Ian Schofield won by 5 shots.

One interesting point from the triples game was that the losing team scored 8 shots (from a maximum of 9) on one end.

Unfortunately, the morning rain and cold conditions led to the practice session scheduled for Sunday afternoon to be cancelled.

This weekend will see the start of the Club Fours Championship with two games to be played on Saturday afternoon.

The scheduled games are: Aldo Malvicino, Ged Hardman, Tom Preston and Russell Boyd to play Jono Watson, Darryle Miller, Damien Miller and David Quigley and Albert Carter, Steve Walsh, George O’Neil and Tony Ruhl to play Chris Wright, Bill Maloney, Graeme Edgerton and Cliff Traynor.

Qualifying games for the BPL Cup will be played at the club on Sunday from 10 am.

Currently eight teams of triples have entered and each team will play several games during the day.

Entry details for the sectional rounds of the 2023-24 Zone 8 Pairs Championships are on the notice board.

Entries for these events close on Thursday 20th July.
