On Sunday the club hosted a Preliminary Round of the 2024 BPL Cup. The weather was fine but quite cold.
Five teams of triples, all from Young, took part and each team played 4 games.
A game consists of two sets of 5 ends and if each team wins a set then a one end tie–breaker is used to decide the winning team.
The winning team scores 3 game points and the team with the highest number of game points is the winner for the day.
Of the 10 games played on the day there were 5 games where a tie–breaker was needed to decide the winning team.
The team of Jono Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley won their 4 games (including 2 games involving a tie–breaker) to score 12 points and were the winners for the day.
They will contest the Regional Final to be played in September.
Thanks to all the players who participated, to Damien Miller for his organisational work and to Bill Maloney and Russell Boyd for their umpiring.
During the week there were just 8 players on the green on Thursday afternoon in very cold conditions.
Jim McQuade and Ian Schofield won their game 19–10 and Harold Anderson and Darryle Miller won their game 18–17.
There was no play on Saturday due to rain and the very cold wind.
