Last weekend saw sectional games in the Zone 8 Fours being played with the sectional winners qualifying for the finals to be played at Narrandera on 2nd and 3rd December.

Congratulations to Brian Christie, Albert Carter, Les Fanning and Denis Rosen on winning the Seniors section played at Temora.

There was just one game in this division played on Saturday with Geoff Holt, Darryle Miller, Graeme Edgerton and Cliff Traynor defeating Peter Colvin’s team from Cootamundra Ex–Services 24–13.

On Sunday morning Denis Rosen’s team defeated Cliff Traynor’s team 26–16. The winners were leading 20–16 going into the final end and a ricocheting drive from Cliff cleared out his own bowls to give the opposition 6 shots. In the other half of the draw Bruce Saffioti, Bill Robertson, Trevor Firman and Bruce Lack from Temora defeated Roy Woodall’s team from Junee 23–16.

The sectional final was played on Sunday afternoon with Denis’ team defeating Bruce’s team 27–26 – a very good effort.

Young hosted the State Division of the competition with one game on Saturday and 3 games on Sunday.

On Saturday the Temora B&R team skipped by Daniel Flack defeated Terry Smith’s team from Cootamundra Ex–Services 23–14. On Sunday morning Bill Spletter, Glen Keane, Mick Wynd and Daniel Flack 18 defeated Jonathon Watson, Peter Watts, Damien Miller and David Quigley 15.

Also, the Temora Ex–Services team of Cooper Gersbach, Joshua Eyles, Arty Stacey and Ben Gersbach defeated Mick Barber, Kevin Medcalf, Ron Rosengreen and Brad Lange from Cootamundra Ex–Services 20–19.

In the final the two teams from Temora were only separated by 1 shot at 11–10 after 11 ends. From that point Ben Gersbach’s team completely dominated the scoring to win the game 25–13.

In the Open Reserve division at Temora two Cootamundra teams played in the final after Terry McDonald’s team defeated Dennis Melmoth’s team from Barmedman 22–16 and Geoff Hillier’s team defeated Anthony Kennedy’s team from West Wyalong 15-11. In the final Tony Curtis, Steve Stanton, Rod Bradley and Geoff Hillier 19 defeated David Large, Ash Bettridge, Jason Jones and Terry McDonald 16. In club bowls there were 20 players involved on Thursday afternoon. Steven Hankins and Ian Schofield took out the vouchers with a 19-shot margin. Other winning teams and their margins were Max Penfold and Tony Ruhl (14 shots), Gordon Gee and Joe Bargwanna (13 shots), Chris Wright and Colin Stokell (13 shots) and Albert Carter and Brian Gibson (7 shots).

On Saturday there were 14 players taking part. Albert Carter and Vic Brown won their game by 5 shots, Mat Fyfe and Brian Madden won their game by 10 shots and the vouchers went to Tom Preston, Steve Walsh and Colin Chapman with a winning margin of 13 shots.

The Spring session of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge commenced on Tuesday night with 10 teams on the green. There were also 10 teams involved on Thursday night. The winners for Thursday night were the FATBBOTS team who scored 17 points.

This weekend the club will host sectional play for the Zone 8 Singles in the Senior and Open Reserve divisions with games on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning and afternoon.
