The weather has been very good for bowls during the past week.

The club hosted sectional play in the Zone 8 Singles in the Senior and Open Reserve divisions on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday.

There were two sections in each division with the sectional winners qualifying for the Zone 8 Finals to be played at Wagga RSL on 17th and 18th June.

There were four games played on Saturday afternoon.

In Section 1 of the Senior division Peter Watts defeated Rick McAlister (Tumut) 25–6 and in Section 2 Mike Barber (Cootamundra Ex–Services) defeated John Cooper 25–6.

In Section 1 of the Open Reserve division Terry Mulligan defeated Darryle Miller 25–20 and in Section 2 Terry McDonald (Cootamundra Ex–Services) defeated Denis Rosen 25–15.

The semi–finals were played on Sunday morning.

Games in the Seniors saw Peter Watts defeat Kevin Anderson (Boorowa Ex–Services) 25–20 and Bill Manwaring (Cootamundra Ex–Services) defeat Harold Anderson 25–23, Mike Barber defeat clubmate Bob New 25–5 and Cliff Traynor defeat Graeme Rossiter (Tumut) 25–24.

In the Open Reserve division Glen Benson defeated Don Martin (Temora) 25–20, Steve Walsh defeated Terry Mulligan 25–23, Joe Read defeated Terry McDonald 25–18 and Tony Parkes (West Wyalong) defeated Ian Schofield 25–17.

The results for the finals of each section on Sunday afternoon were Bill Manwaring defeated Peter Watts 25–19, Mike Barber defeated Cliff Traynor 25–4, Glen Benson defeated Steve Walsh 25–14 and Tony Parkes defeated Joe Read 25–12.

Congratulations to the winners and good luck in the zone finals.

Thanks to the club members who marked or umpired for these games.

Special mention to Darryle Miller, Denis Rosen and Bob Ruhl who all marked two games on Sunday and to Damien Miller who had the greens in such good condition and was the umpire on Sunday.

Sectional games in the State Division of the Singles were played at Temora at the weekend.

On Saturday Jono Watson defeated Artie Stacey 25–18 and Dylan McAlister lost to Rob Jordan 25–24.

On Sunday morning Jono Watson defeated Rob Jordan 25–6.

In the final Wayne Foote defeated Jono Watson 25–23.

On Thursday afternoon Kathryn Betcher and Peter Watts played Therese Ruhl and Martin Betcher in a semi-final of the Mixed Pairs. After 10 ends Therese and Martin led 13–6 but Kathryn and Peter won the next 5 ends to lead 20–14 and they went on to win 26–17.

There were 22 men playing Jackpot Bowls on Thursday afternoon.

The vouchers went to Milan Brankovic, George O’Neil and Tony Ruhl with a margin of 9 shots.

Other winning teams and their margins were Brian McNair and Tom Preston – 6 shots, Glen Benson and Damien Miller – 3 shots, Albert Carter and Darryle Miller – 2 shots and Phil Taylor and John Cooper – 1 shot.

There were just 10 players for Jackpot bowls on Saturday afternoon.

Albert Carter and Cliff Traynor won their game 23–12 to win the vouchers for the day.

In the triples game Brian Christie, Tom Preston and Ian Schofield were the winners 23–17.

Young will host the Zone 8 Finals for Grade 7 Pennants on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May. The winning sides from all six sections will be involved with 72 players taking part over the weekend.
