A further three games were played in the Mixed Pairs Championships on Saturday.

The game between Jill and Denis Rosen and Glen Seward and Robyn Apps saw Jill and Denis leading 10-1 after 7 ends. From that point the scoring was fairly even and the final score was 21–13 in favour of Jill and Denis.

Jenny and Geoff Holt won the first 3 ends of their game against Elsie Hines and Brian Madden to lead 5–0 but Elsie and Brian won the next 6 ends to have a lead of 15 to 5.

They continued to dominate the scoring and won the game 28–12.

The third game was between John and Kate Cooper and Sheila and Cliff Traynor.

Sheila and Cliff won 8 of the first 9 ends to lead 12–2 and they built on that start to win the game 27–10.

Also in this event Heather Bailey and Ian Schofield had to forfeit their match against Lisa and Russell Boyd.

The semi–finals and final will be scheduled in July due to Russell and Brian being involved in the Grade 3 Pennant Finals this coming weekend.

There was also one game of the Minor Singles played on Saturday with Darryle Miller opposed to Brian Christie.

An even start saw the score at 6–all after 8 ends. Brian had a small 15-11 lead after 16 ends but led 22–13 after 21 ends.

Darryle won the next 3 ends to trail 22-19 before Brian scored the necessary 3 shots to win 25–19.

Further games will be played in the Minor Singles next weekend.

Saturday also saw 16 players involved in Jackpot Bowls.

The winners of the four games of pairs were Tony Oyston and Jono Watson 28–14, Albert Carter and Peter Watts 23–10, Ted Loader and Colin Chapman 24–21 and Allan Langford and Russell Boyd 23-13.

There were 14 players on the green on Thursday afternoon.

The only big margin was in the triples game where Jim McQuade, Colin Chapman and Ian Schofield won their game by 17 shots.

Milan Brankovic and Geoff Holt won their game by 6 shots and Albert Carter and Joe Bargwanna had a winning margin of 9 shots.

Players are reminded to check the notice board for information concerning the round of the BPL Cup that is scheduled to be held at the club on Sunday 21st July.

The club’s Grade 3 Open Pennant players will be playing in the State Finals at Forster this coming weekend. We wish them well in their games representing the club.

The first of their three sectional games will be played on Friday 28th June against Beresfield from Zone 2.

The other two clubs in their section are Urunga from Zone 14 and East Cessnock from Zone 6.

Traditionally the clubs from Zone 2 (clubs around Newcastle) and Zone 6 (clubs around Maitland) are very strong and our side will face some tough matches.
