The finals for the Zone 8 Triples Championships were played at Temora Bowling Club over the weekend.

This is a Bowls NSW event and has three divisions – State, Senior and Open Reserve.

The sectional qualifying rounds were held in January and February with the winners progressing to the finals.

The quarter-finals were played on Saturday afternoon, semi–finals on Sunday morning and the finals on Sunday afternoon.

There were some very close games played as befits this level of competition with 9 of the 13 games having a margin of less than 5 shots. Two teams from Young were involved. Jono Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley in the State division and Ian Schofield (substituting for Joe Bargwanna), Graeme Edgerton and Cliff Traynor in the Senior division.

The weather on Saturday was overcast but fine and four quarter–finals were completed. The results (using only the skips names) were as follows.

State: Brett White (Wagga RSL) 21 d David Quigley 19.

Senior: Cliff Traynor 26 d Peter Forck (Henty) 8.

Open Reserve: Max Sanbrook (Wagga RSL) 23 d Gavin Stephenson (Coolamon) 20 and Ben Gersbach (Temora Ex–Services) 22 d Terry McDonald (Cootamundra Ex–Services) 18.

Despite the rain on Sunday morning causing the start of play to be delayed for over an hour, the semi–finals and finals were completed.

State Semi–Finals: Adam McIntyre (Leeton Soldiers) 23 d Brett White 12 and Darren Moore (Lavington) 29 d Bruce Lack (Temora) 11.

Senior Semi–Finals: Mark Pearce (Wagga Rules) 21 d Cliff Traynor 20 and David Ivanoff (Narrandera) 24 d Trevor Firman (Temora) 23.

In the finals Darren Moore 24 d Adam McIntyre 23; Mark Pearce 22 d David Ivanoff 19; Ben Gersbach 23 d Max Sanbrook 22.

These winners will progress to the state finals in July. Well done to the Temora Bowling Club on their organisation for this event.

At home there were 22 players on the green on Thursday afternoon in quite pleasant conditions. George O’Neil, Alan Gall and Les Fanning won their game by 17 shots to claim the vouchers while Albert Carter and Steve Walsh took out the jackpot with a margin of 16 shots.
