Minor Pairs Finalists

The Minor Pairs Championship was completed over the weekend with two games on Saturday and the final on Sunday.

On Saturday Glen Seward and Joe Read played Chris Wright and Allan Langford. After 13 ends the score was 13–all but from that point Glen and Joe dominated the scoring to win 27–15.

In the other game Ted Loader and Tony Ruhl were opposed to Brian Christie and Brian McNair.

This game also had an even start with Ted and Tony leading 7–6 after 10 ends. The two Brians won most of the remaining ends to win the game 22–12.

The final on Sunday was played in pleasant sunny conditions.

Glen and Joe won 6 of the first 7 ends to lead 15–1 and after 13 ends they were in front 18–7. Brian and Brian won the next 5 ends to lead 19–18. A score of 3 shots for Glen and Joe followed by 2 singles to Brian and Brian saw a tied match after the standard 21 ends.

On the extra end Glen and Joe scored 2 shots to take out the championship. Congratulations to all four players on a very fine game.

There were 14 other players involved on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Webb, Mark Brownlie and Brian Madden dominated the scoring in the second half of their game to win the vouchers with a 32–12 scoreline.

In the other games Col Chapman and Cliff Traynor won 23–12 and Harold Anderson and Ian Schofield won 25–14.

Earlier in the week there were 14 players on Thursday afternoon and the vouchers went to Stephen Joliffe and Glen Benson with a 20 shot margin.

Col Chapman and Chris Wright won their game by 12 shots and in the triples game an extra end saw Tom Preston, Ian Schofield and Cliff Traynor win by 2 shots.

Last week Peter Watts and Russell Boyd were playing for Zone 8 in the NSW Senior Inter–Zone Championships. Zone 8 reached the quarter–finals and lost narrowly to Zone 2 who were runners–up to Zone 9.

Over the weekend Jono Watson, Damien Miller and David Quigley played for Zone 8 in the NSW Open Inter–Zone Championships. The zone side won two of their three sectional games and under normal circumstances would have played in the quarter–finals but the heavy rain on Saturday afternoon saw one session of play missed. To ensure that the event was completed on Monday, the quarter–finals were abandoned and the sectional winners went straight to the semi–finals. In the final Zone 16 defeated Zone 2.

The draws for the Minor Singles and Mixed Pairs Championships are on display at the club.
