CWA crafters shared their handy hints at a special gathering in Cowra last week.

A handful of Young CWA branch members attended A Handy Hints for Handi Crafters Day along with members from Canimbla, Forbes Evening Branch, Morongla and Canowindra last week.

The event took place at the Ngualaway Room in Cowra on Wednesday, January 24.

According to CWA South West Group Publicity Officer Margie Clarke, the day was informative and fun-filled.

“It was presented by Ruth Shanks, a State CEA Handicraft Judge, to advise members what judges look for when judging members items in branch, group and state competitions,” Ms Clarke said.

“Handicraft consists of many things, ie, embroidery, sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, cross stitching, etc.”

The main things judges look for include:

  • Neatness;
  • Tidiness;
  • Fit for purpose;
  • Looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside; and
  • Attention to detail.

South West Group meets every couple of months for council meetings. Sometimes these meetings will include an event like land cookery judging while at others they will simply be stand-alone topics like ag and environment.
