Students from Murrumburrah High School get excited about their third gift from Murrumburrah-Harden Rotary thanks to Bendigo Community Bank.

Over the last couple of weeks, Murrumburrah-Harden Rotary has delivered another round of books to local students.

Member and spokesperson for Rotary, Rita O’Connor said they were delighted that manager of the Murrumburrah-Harden Bendigo Community Bank, Lisa Dean, and Bendigo Bank Board Member, Judy McFadyen, were able to join them for the book giving at Murrumburrah Public School.

Rotarians Janice Gray, Cam Hooke and Pat O’Connor were also involved in the day.

“Due to the generosity of the Bendigo Community Bank, we were able to purchase a beautiful new selection of books,” Ms O’Connor said.

“The children were very excited and appreciative of their gifts.”

When it was time to distribute books to students from Murrumburrah High School, Ms O’Connor said it was an absolute delight to see the Year 7 and 8 students for whom this was the third year of the program.

“They were engaged and excited to be choosing their book, some even requesting particular books for the next round,” Ms O’Connor said.

“They were so receptive and it shows how such a simple concept can take off and become so successful.

“One student told me that not only had he read the books he’d chosen over the last couple of years (which I think surprised him as well), but that he was going to keep them to give to his kids when he grows up.”

Trinity Catholic College’s students were also receptive when it was their turn to receive their gifts of books.

Murrumburrah-Harden Rotary thanked the Bendigo Community Bank Harden-Murrumburrah for giving them the funds to make the program possible again this year.
