The Rotary Club of Boorowa has been hosting Community Markets since 2014, and the next one is this weekend - Saturday, October 26 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Old Courthouse Park.
Market Coordinator Lyn Diskon took over coordination of the event from former Rotarian Jayne Apps around 3-4 years ago and said that the number of stallholders varied depending on weather and other factors experienced by stallholders themselves.
“We have a number of regulars and on most market days, have one or two “newbies”, Ms Diskon said. “Tourists love markets; locals love to see what other locals and those from around the area are producing; opportunity to purchase items that are not necessarily available in local retail outlets; adds to the local economy. We get lots of locals dropping by regularly.”
Ms Diskon said that given the location of the Markets, and that Marsden Street, Boorowa is part of the Lachlan Valley Way (a major state highway connecting east and west), we also get lots of travellers dropping by. “On one occasion, we even had a group of hens drop by,” Ms Diskon said.
As well as the stall holders and delicious eats, the Boorowa Community Markets offers live entertainment.
“We work closely with local entertainer Jane Dee from Murringo who helps us find other entertainers,” Ms Diskon said. “Many of whom ask to come back, or give us contact details for others.”
This weekend’s buskers are locals Carol and Mal and the Rye Park Soldiers Memorial Hall Committee will be cooking the barbecue.
