Round 1 Of The Summer Twilight Competition

The first round of the summer twilight competition saw two very close and exciting games, played on a hot Sunday afternoon.
The competition was tight, with some spectacular goals on show!There were some new faces out on the field joining many of the regular members.
The Hilltops Hornets defeated the Dingoes (1-0). The Hilltops Hornets and the Dingoes were the first teams to take the field. Both teams were boasting new players who were keen to give hockey a go.
Luke Cosgrove played strong in the middle for the Hilltops Hornets, and played a pivotal role in guiding his team in their attack, however the Dingoes played a strong defensive game with James Cronin, Brendan Sheppard and Kyle McGovern stopping their attempts at goal.
The newcomers on both sides gave it their all and had a great time while they learned how to trap and pass on the field.
The game remained scoreless at the end of the third quarter, and it wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Luke Cosgrove managed to push the ball past three Dingoes defenders to score the first and only goal of the match.
The Hilltops Hornets walked away with the win at full time at 1-0.

The Kookaburras defeated the Wallabies (5-4). The second game of the day was another show stopper, and a lot of fun to watch. This game had the players from both teams running and defending hard.
The Wallabies held their ground and fended off numerous short corners and attempts at goal.
Jenny Mckay was particularly strong in her defence for the Wallabies, making it hard work for the Kookaburras to score.
However, the Kookaburras were the first to get a point, with Jude Sibanda putting away a lovely shot. This was quickly followed by a spectacular goal from Michael Adams for the Wallabies.
The game continued in this fashion, with more spectacular goals from both teams. Joshua Sibanda threaded the ball through a tight defence for the Kookaburras to score for his team, while Edwin Kwan ran the distance of the field to score his solo goal.
The Wallabies kept up, and Izack Meharg, Andrew Pratt and Jenny Mckay also scored for their team.
However, it was the Kookaburras who were able to finish on top when Janice Dunk pushed the ball toward the goal, and Jude Sibanda tapped it in to seal the deal, leaving the final score at 5-4 to the Kookaburras.
