Round 6 of the Twilight Competition delivered another day of close games and fierce competition at Sawpit Gully Oval.

The opening match featured a showdown between ladder leaders, the Hilltops Hornets, and the determined Dingoes.

The Hornets made an explosive start, with Alexander Strachan and Ned Mullany showcasing their skills up the middle. Their seamless teamwork allowed quick, precise passes to Taylah Murray and Luke Cosgrove, both of whom found the backboard early on to secure an early lead.

Refusing to back down, the Dingoes responded with grit and determination. Michelle Cronin, Jennifer McKay, and Tracy Lamb combined their efforts to break through the Hornets’ defense.

Their persistence paid off when Jennifer McKay found a gap, slipping the ball past the keeper to put the Dingoes on the scoreboard.

However, the Hornets struck back swiftly, with Sarah Mullany using her finesse to extend the lead to 3-1 at halftime.

The second half saw the Dingoes find their rhythm, tightening their defense and holding off the Hornets’ attacks. Capitalising on their momentum, Michael Adams and Greg Bannister both netted goals, leveling the score and igniting the crowd.

The Dingoes’ spirit remained unbroken, and Michelle Cronin added her name to the scoresheet before Greg Bannister pushed the ball into the circle, where James Cronin expertly guided it into the goal — a standout moment that left spectators in awe.

The Dingoes’ remarkable comeback secured a well-deserved 5-3 victory, toppling the previously dominant Hornets and demonstrating their resilience and determination.

The second game of Round 6 in the Twilight Competition saw the Kookaburras and Wallabies go head-to-head in a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat contest.

Both teams showcased tremendous skill and determination, keeping spectators captivated from start to finish.

The Wallabies put on a defensive masterclass, repelling multiple Kookaburra attacks with unwavering resolve. Donna Burns and David Webster formed a formidable defensive pairing, working tirelessly to protect their goal.

They were well supported by their teammates, with Adam Gunderson standing out as a key competitor throughout the match.

On the other side, the Kookaburras displayed remarkable agility and precision, with Joshua Sibanda and Jude Sibanda weaving their way through opponents with ease. They received vital support from Lucy Dunk and Nathabo Sibanda, who worked tirelessly toward the goal end.

Despite their persistence, breaking through the Wallabies’ solid defense proved to be a daunting task.

After numerous attempts, the breakthrough finally came when Joshua Sibanda spotted a gap and seized his opportunity, driving the ball into the goal and securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory for the Kookaburras.

It was a game defined by tenacity and strategic play, leaving the crowd in awe of both teams’ efforts.

The final game of Round 6 saw the Wombats take on the Dingoes in a fastpaced and entertaining contest. With both teams playing short, the match remained evenly balanced and full of excitement from start to finish.

The Wombats wasted no time making their mark, with Hayley Saines catching the Dingoes off guard straight after the whistle, slotting an easy goal to give her team an early lead.

The Dingoes, however, were quick to respond, pushing the ball down the field.

Tracy Lamb delivered a perfectly placed pass to Michelle Cronin, who tapped it into the goal to level the score.

The Dingoes then took control of the game with a flurry of goals before halftime.

James Cronin, Tracy Lamb, Michael Adams, and Edwina Planten all found the back of the net in quick succession, showcasing their attacking prowess and teamwork.

Despite trailing at the break, the Wombats refused to back down. They came out firing in the second half, using the open space on the field to their advantage.

Faith Freeman, Greg Bannister, and Jennifer McKay all managed to break through the Dingoes’ defense, scoring crucial goals to narrow the gap.

In the end, the Dingoes held on to claim a narrow 5-4 victory, surviving a spirited Wombats comeback.
