Round 9 of the Summer Twilight competition wrapped up in spectacular fashion, setting the stage for an exciting final round this week.

The opening clash saw the Kookaburras and Hilltops Hornets go head-to-head in a fiercely contested match. Both teams showcased their skill and determination, led by standout midfielders Luke Cosgrove and Hannington Sibanda. Their commanding presence ensured the contest remained tight from start to finish, with neither side willing to give an inch.

The Kookaburras worked well as a team, dazzling both the opposition and spectators with their skillful play. Joshua Sibanda and Jude Sibanda combined brilliantly, using each other to push the ball forward and break through the Hilltops Hornets’ defence. Their efforts paid off, with the Kookaburras managing to score four goals—two from Joshua Sibanda, one from Hannington Sibanda, and another from Lucy Dunk.

However, it was the Hilltops Hornets who claimed victory in a thrilling 5-4 finish.

Luke Cosgrove, Taylah Murray, Michael Killick, Sarah Mullany, and Ned Mullany all found the back of the net, securing the win for their team.

Ned Mullany covered plenty of ground throughout the match, working tirelessly to move the ball forward while also tracking back in defence when needed. Sarah Mullany played a crucial role, distributing the ball effectively and putting in a strong defensive performance. Meanwhile, Sarah Wills was a rock at the back, making i

it difficult for the Kookaburras to break through.

The second game of the day featured a showdown between the Wombats and Wallabies. The Wallabies’ defence, led by David Webster, was consistent, making scoring opportunities hard to come by for the Wombats. Meanwhile, Monique Woodward and Adam Gunderson worked well together, moving the ball downfield and giving the Wallabies multiple chances to attack the Wombats’ goal with the help of their teammates.

Despite the Wallabies’ strong defence, the Wombats struck first, with Talia McKay finding the back of the net. Regular goal scorer Hayley Saines followed up with an

other, before McKay secured her second goal of the match, giving the Wombats an early lead. The Wallabies responded with a goal from Andrew Pratt to get on the board, but their momentum was shortlived. The Wombats proved too strong, with Tom Wills sealing the victory with a fourth goal, leaving the final score at 4-1.

The final game of the day was between the Kookaburras and Dingoes, a spirited match filled with good sportsmanship and opportunities for junior players to develop their skills. The Kookaburras had the upper hand, with Nothabo Sibanda and Lucy Dunk proving to be a lethal combination in attack, skillfully maneuvering past the Dingoes’ defence to score five goals between them. Janice Dunk was a standout in defence, repeatedly shutting down the Dingoes’ attempts to move forward. She also contributed on the scoreboard, adding another goal for the Kookaburras.

Joshua Sibanda and Jude Sibanda capitalised on their opportunities, each scoring a goal to bring the Kookaburras’ tally to an impressive eight.

The Dingoes, however, never gave up.

Kiara Ryan was steadfast in defence, while Ruby Walsh, Kayden Ryan, and Gilroy Walsh worked tirelessly to push the ball forward. Their persistence paid off, with each finding the back of the net. James Cronin, Michelle Cronin, and Edwina Planten also managed to break through the Kookaburras’ defence to score, bringing the Dingoes’ total to six. Despite their valiant effort, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Kookaburras, who secured an 8-6 victory.
