A small earthquake occurred near Murrumbateman on Monday morning, May 20 just before 3 am.
The quake was widely recorded on seismographs operated by the Seismological Association of Australia, Geoscience Australia and a few citizen scientists like Duty Seismologist Kevin McCue at Young, Dalton, Canberra and Bega and as far as Western Sydney.
“The magnitude was just under 2 but large enough to be felt by insomniacs nearby,” Mr McCue said.
“The last quite destructive earthquake nearby was at Dalton in 1949, it’s magnitude 5.5, similar to that at Newcastle in 1989.”
