Southern NSW Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub

Southern NSW Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub (Southern NSW Innovation Hub) connects farmers and rural communities with practical, modern solutions to adapt to a changing climate.

They are part of a national network and collaborate with trusted organisations, experts, researchers, and community groups to drive sustainable change, helping communities prepare for and adapt to drought. As one of eight hubs funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund, they go beyond research, working directly with communities to support the adoption of new technologies, tools, and ideas that improve drought and climate resilience. Their goal is to build a future where farmers and their communities are stronger, more adaptable, and better equipped to face the challenges of drought. Cootamundra Electorate Awarded LifeSaving Defibrillators To Enhance Public Safety

Seven local community clubs and organisations across the Cootamundra electorate have been awarded funding through the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program to purchase lifesaving defibrillators. Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program is a significant step toward improving public health and safety. “This is a game-changer for our community, having access to an AED can make the difference between life and death,” Ms Cooke said. “By equipping our clubs and groups with this vital tool, we are not only enhancing their emergency preparedness but also fostering a sense of responsibility and care within our communities,” she said. This initiative aims to ensure that more individuals have access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which can dramatically increase the chances of survival in cases of sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs are portable devices that can diagnose life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and deliver an electric shock to restore a normal heart rhythm.

The availability of AEDs in public spaces has been proven to significantly improve the outcomes for individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. “The response time in an emergency is crucial,” Ms Cooke said. “The more AEDs we have accessible in our community, the better the chance of a positive outcome for someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest,” she said. The recipients across the Cootamundra electorate include:

  • Young Touch Association Inc

  • West Wyalong Bowling and Recreation Club

  • Temora Gliding Club

  • Cowra Masonic Hall Ltd

  • Bectric Recreation Reserve Trust

  • Narrandera Amateur Swimming & Life Saving Club Inc

  • Cootamundra Town Tennis Club

CWA Southwest Group Council Meeting

Southwest Group held their council meeting at Young CWA rooms on the 6th of March. Several items were up for discussion, one unfortunately the closure of the Quandialla branch. Young branch ladies provided a wonderful morning tea and lunch. After lunch, guest speaker Dean Bedford from “Boys To The Bush” along with Laurence Murphy and Lukas Wickey (one of the boys in the program) gave a very informative talk on their program, which works with disconnected, vulnerable boys including ones with homes with no male model. They do this through various camps and mentoring etc. Photo is of Treasurer Maureen Nation, President Jenny Thompson and Secretary Martine Griffith.
