Cellist Susan Blake and pianist John Martin will thrill audiences at the Silo Sounds presentation of Spring Won’t Wait on Sunday, September 1.

Get your diary out now and mark in Sunday, September 1 at 2 pm - and make sure you get to Ross Memorial Uniting Church on the corner of Binalong and Derby Streets in Murrumburrah for another Silo Sounds presentation.

Fittingly named, Spring Won’t Wait features cellist Susan Blake and pianist John Martin as together they celebrate the bursting joy of a new season.

Among their repertoire will be:

  • Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro Op. 70;
  • Bruch’s Kol Nedrei;
  • J Ireland’s Spring Will Not Wait;
  • Ann Carr-Boyd’s Fantasy On A Day In Taralga;
  • Sculthorpe’s Requiem for solo cello;
  • Schubert’s piano impromptu; and
  • de Falla’s 4 Popular Spanish Songs.

Susan Blake, one of Australia’s most influential and respected lecturers in cello and chamber music at the University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music, performs with passion, energy and beauty.

She also presents at summer courses in Europe and frequently solos with orchestras and ensembles in Australia and Europe.

With an extensive interest in 18th-century music, Blake plays a cello made by Giovanni Grancino in Milan in 1701.

John Martin has had a varied career, proving to be a colourful, consummate, engaging and vibrant performer.

He has collaborated for years in recital and broadcast with Harden’s own Deborah de Graaff, flautist, Leah Lock as “Power of Three”, Susan Blake and a host of other well-known musical stars.

He is also an accomplished composer, regularly heard on radio and studio recordings.

After an afternoon of sensational music, stick around and meet the performers and enjoy the legendary high tea that follows the performance.
