The spectacular night is packed with dancing, raffles, auctions, food and fun.

Stars of Young is back after a hiatus brought on by COVID and the following aftermath.

The high energy, dance spectacular brings together the community in a 2 night spectacular aimed at raising vital funds for the Cancer Council’s world-class research, prevention, advocacy, and information and support.

Local legends and business owners take to the dance floor over two gala style evenings that also feature raffles, auctions, food, entertainment and plenty of fun for everyone.

Cancer Council’s Community Fundraising Co-Ordinator Meagan Vearing encourages locals to slip on their dancing shoes and come forward to be a part of the action.

“We are super excited to be bringing Stars of Young back to the stage in 2025 after a few years hiatus.”

“We hope to raise a massive $100,000 for the 2 night spectacular, the show is a great community event and we encourage anyone to nominate themselves or maybe someone they work with who would be great as a star.”

“Nominations are now open, we only have a few spots left.”

Meagan assures prospective dancers there is no need to have had any formal dance training prior to signing up to be a star.

“The professional dance teachers will work one on one with the Stars to make them look great on stage no matter what the level of dance may or may not be.”

The Stars will perform a dance routine and be scored by the judges for 4 different awards:

  • Best Costume

  • Judges Choice Award

  • Peoples Choice Award

  • Highest Fundraiser

This year’s theme is Winter Wonderland with a cocktail dress code, so expect a night of elegance and glamour.

Tickets usually sell out and with about 580 available over the two nights, this year’s Stars looks like it will be no exception.

As well as performing the dance routine, Stars are given a fundraising target and encouraged to organise fundraising events along the way.

“Cancer Council is here to help and guide each star to raise the most money possible,” said Meagan.

Discussing her motivation for running Stars of Young, Meagan said, “What truly motivates me to run Stars of Young is the incredible impact it has on both our community and the fight against cancer.”

“This event brings people together in a unique way, celebrating the courage and talent of our local stars while raising vital funds to support those affected by cancer.”

“I’m inspired by the stories of strength and resilience I hear from families and individuals who benefit directly from Cancer Council’s programs and research.”

“Knowing that every dollar we raise helps fund life-saving work and provide essential support services drives me to give my all to this event.”

“It’s also about connection. Stars of Young is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of the community’s spirit, generosity, and determination to make a difference.”

“Seeing everyone come together, from participants to spectators, reminds me why events like this matter so much.”

“At the heart of it all, my motivation comes from wanting to create a future where no one has to face cancer alone, and ultimately, where we live in a world free from cancer.”
