Silo Sounds Summer Serenade recital took place on Sunday, a hot and sticky afternoon in the Ross Memorial Uniting Church in Harden.
The recital was well attended with 85 people coming from Sydney and Canberra, as well as local attendees.
The progam included pieces from Schuman, Edwards and Chopin as well as two unannounced pieces from popular television series, the themes to Midsomer Murders and A Country Practice.
Main artists Tonya Lemoh and Deborah de Graff were joined by percussionist Keith Doldissen from the Young Conservatorium of Music who did an excellent job performing at short notice.
Attendees were then treated to a delicious high tea and wine tasting. Those purchasing CDs were able to get the artists to sign them, providing a special end to the recital.
Chairperson of Silo Sounds Stewart Bruce said, “Tonya, Deb and Keith established a lovely rapport with the audience and provided interesting commentary of pieces played throughout the recital.”
“We were especially privileged to have Tonya as pianist as she had travelled all the way from Perth just for this recital - and she did not disappoint!”“Each recital (and we have four each year) is accompanied by a day of mentoring where the artists engage with youngsters from the local community, notably students at Murrumburrah Public School and also Bunyip Pre-School. An elders concert is also held for local folk, their carers and friends and this is a free event”.
Stewart said that the usual day of mentoring and elders concert unfortunately had to be cancelled this time around due to the hailstorm that hit Harden on Monday.
“The Mentoring Program this time around had to be cancelled at short notice due to the horrific hailstorm on early Monday morning which caused so much damage around Harden Murrumburrah including the Ross Memorial Church (where the recital and mentoring programs are held, the Bunyip Pre-School and Murrumburrah Public School. Elderly folk from Flexible Care Services and the Harden Grange also usually attend the Elders Concert but sadly not on this occasion.”
The next recital will be held in April. Visit silosounds.net.au for all the info.
