The Cherry Ride For Resilience To Commence Soon
IMAGE: Around 50 cyclists will ride to raise awareness and funds for Active Farmers at the Young Cherry ‘Ride for Resilience’ across the Hilltops region on Saturday, April 22.
We all want our children to be resilient, to bounce back from difficult situations - when life knocks you down, get back up or when you fall off your bike, get back on, brush yourself off and have another go.
Sometimes, though, it isn’t as simple as that.
Sometimes, the knocks can feel like death blows.
Active Farmers will host a fun, one-day fundraising ride for cyclists in an effort to raise much-needed money as well as awareness of what they aim to do.
The organisation is a grassroots entity bringing farming communities together to counter some alarming mental health statistics in the regions.
They counter these issues through group fitness in a fun, supportive environment.
Active Farmers has already grown to a team of 48 qualified personal trainers in more than 60 small farming communities across the country.
They reach more than 1500 participants each month and contribute to the resilience of the many communities they work with.
In a nutshell, they work to help people connect with others.
Whether you’re an avid cyclist or simply enjoy a casual pedal around the neighbourhood, the Young Cherry ‘Ride for Resilience’ event will allow you to enjoy the stunning Hilltops region while raising funds and awareness for the positive impacts Active Farmers has already had in small, rural communities.
Wallabies coach, Eddie Jones will be in Young for the event and will sound the hooter at 7 am at the Young Tourist Caravan Park on Saturday morning, April 22. The 137km route will take off from the caravan park to Boorowa, where they will partake in morning tea before heading off to Harden for lunch and then finish back where they started.
Member for Cootamundra, NSW Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience, said she would participate in the ride.
CEO of Active Farmers, Justin Sampson said it was important that people do some form of physical activity, even if it’s a 20-minute walk every day.
“Together with nutrition and sleep, you can’t go wrong,” Mr Sampson said.
“It really has been a game changer for us to have all three to help us.”
Tickets are still available, but limited.
The ride costs $350 per person, which includes the ride, the Friday drinks and canapes at Grove Estate Winery and a celebratory dinner after the ride on Saturday.
Active Farmers are also raising additional funds via GoFundraise, to go back into supporting their program in new and existing communities.
The program costs an average of $7000 per year in personal trainer wages, equipment, venue hire and health fitness.
