Entries are open for the 2024 Boorowa Christmas Light Up competition hosted by the Boorowa Business Chamber.

Driving around and taking in the Christmas lights on the nights leading up to the big day, is one of the best experiences of the festive season.

This year, the Boorowa Business Chamber (BBC) welcomes residents, schools and businesses to join the festivities by entering the 2024 Boorowa Christmas Light Up competition, which has always attracted amazing displays to brighten the area. BBC President Garrett Robinson said entries were now open for the competition.

“Boorowa is very much a family-friendly area and many of our residents and business owners create wonderful uplifting displays delighting children and adults alike,” Mr Robinson said. “The variety of entrant displays is always impressive, with decorations ranging from inflatable snow globes to solar powered decorations, to lights synchronised to music and everything in between.”

Entries will close on Sunday, December 8, with winners announced at the Carols in the Park concert on Friday, December 13. BBC Committee member and competition organiser Kim Rogers has encouraged businesses, organisations and residents to register their premises and homes for the popular competition as part of Christmas in Boorowa, 2024.

“It’s time to untangle your lights and dust off your decorations to decorate your outdoor spaces with festive lights and decorations and enter your creation into our competition,” Ms Rogers.

“I really want to see our community spirit shine this year, and I encourage everyone to consider decorating their homes and businesses for the Christmas season. So, submit your entry form as soon as possible, even if you haven’t yet put up your lights.

Just make sure they are up and lit before judging commences on December 9th. We will have a team of independent ‘elves’ out and about between 9th to 12th December to check out the displays and select the best lights.”

Entry for each of the four categories is free, quick and easy and open to residents, businesses and community organisations within the former Boorowa Shire area. Prizes, and well-deserved bragging rights, await the winners.

The four categories are:

  • Best Residential, sponsored by Boorowa Pharmacy;
  • Best Business/Organisation, sponsored by Indulgence Hair and Beauty;
  • Best Rural display, sponsored by Flemings Boorowa; and
  • Best Novelty display, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Boorowa.

Entry forms and guidelines can be found with each of the category sponsors at the Boorowa Community Op Shop; the Boorowa Ex-Services Club; Birds, Bees and Me and Kerrie’s Garden Nikety Naks.

Director of Flemings Boorowa Amanda Serafin said Flemings was really proud to be a sponsor of something that adds so much cheer to families in our community. “I’ll certainly be heading to view the many wonderful light displays across the area, just like I know many families around here do as part of their Christmas traditions,” Ms Serafin said.

The BBC 2024 Christmas Lights Competition is part of the BBC’s Christmas in Boorowa program, which includes the annual shop locally Spending Spree program and the Carols in the Park concert. Mr Robinson said Christmas was a time for the community to come together and share the Christmas spirit, and the BBC was aiming to make Christmas 2024 one to remember.
