Time To Roll Up Your Sleeves And Donate Blood
Get ready to roll your sleeves up and donate when the Mobile Blood Donor Centre rolls into town early next month.
Did you know that Australia needs over 1.7 million blood donations every year to meet the demand?
That equates to three donations every minute.
The Mobile Blood Donor Centre will be rolling into Young again early next month, and relying on new and regular blood donors to come out and do their part to boost stocks.
They will be set up at the usual spot - adjacent to Woolworths car park on Boorowa Street. Donation times will be:
Tuesday, August 6 from 1 pm to 7:30 pm;
Wednesday, August 7 from 7:30 am 2 pm;
Thursday, August 8 from 1 pm to 7:30 pm; and
Friday, August 9 from 7:30 am to 2 pm.
One blood donation can save up to three lives.
Each donation extracts about 470mL of blood, about 8 percent of the blood volume of an average adult, but that volume will have been fully restored within 24 to 48 hours after donating.
Red blood cells last just 42 days from the date of donation.
People can donate blood every 12 weeks and plasma every two weeks.
Blood donated is usually separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets.
Let’s see how many Hilltops residents can get out to the Mobile Blood Donor Centre and roll up their sleeves.
You can book an appointment online at www.donateblood.com.au or call 13 14 95 ahead of time.
