Organist Sam Giddy will join trumpeter Lachlan Mahoney at Ross Memorial Church, Murrumburrah for a unique recital featuring the church’s beautifully restored Dodd pipe organ.

The twin towns are in for a unique musical experience with an upcoming recital for organ and trumpet.

The recital will be held at the Ross Memorial Church, Murrumburrah with its beautifully restored Dodd pipe organ on Sunday, August 11 at 2 pm.

Organist Sam Giddy was, until recently, assistant organist at St Andrews Cathedral in Sydney.

He is shortly to fly out to the Netherlands for an organ competition, but will be back in plenty of time for our recital.

Sam has local connections, having grown up in Yass.

On this occasion, he is teaming up with trumpeter, Lachlan Mahoney who has a busy teaching and performance schedule in Sydney.

Both artists graduated with Bachelor of Music degrees from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Sam and Lachlan are very excited about performing in Murrumburrah-Harden.

The church will be heated on the day, but pews can be a bit hard, so people are welcome to take along their own cushion.

The Dodd organ was installed in 1917 by Josiah Dodd at a cost of £950 and has been played continually ever since.

It has had extensive renovation, cleaning and repairs in recent years and is now in tip-top condition.

Maintenance and tuning continues to be carried out by Ian Brown and his wife, Jennifer from Ballina on a six monthly basis.

Ian has maintained the organ, with only a short break, for a record 60 years.

Entry will be by donation at the door with proceeds going to a charity.

After the concert, afternoon tea will be served in the church hall.
