A number of international high school exchange students are seeking host families in and around Harden.
If you have a spare room and a big heart, you may just be what they are looking for.
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to host-families - they hail from a wide cross-section of the community and all different backgrounds.
A family may choose to host an exchange student for an opportunity to experience another culture without leaving home and increase their cultural awareness.
Hosting an exchange student can widen connectivity, with many students and families maintaining that contact over years.
Other families choose to host an exchange student to have a positive impact on a young person’s life, offer support, guidance and a home-away-from-home that lasts a lifetime.
Another benefit of hosting a foreign exchange student is an increased awareness and appreciation of what makes Australia such a wonderful country to call home as you share its beauty with your temporary family member.
Each student has a profile for families to look through to help them choose the student that will best fit their family.
WEP arranges school enrolments, guided by the host family’s choice of school.
It is an educational program, so the students will commence school shortly after arriving.
A number of students will be arriving in Australia in July and August this year.
WEP supports host families with a local coordinator and round-the-clock office staff.
Students are fully insured and pay for their school costs, transport, medical costs and personal spending when on outings with their host family.
Host families are unpaid volunteers who are asked to provide three meals per day and a safe, caring home environment for their exchange students.
Host families must undergo screening including obtaining a Working With Children Check (WWCC), host family application, three references and an interview in the family home to ensure there are no criminal concerns.
WEP is a not-for-profit student exchange organisation opening doors to rewarding cultural exchange opportunities for students and families around the world for more than 20 years.
