On Saturday the South Western District Fours Championships were conducted at Cootamundra Ex–Services Club.

There were two morning games in the State Division with clear–cut wins in both games.

In one game Lisa Boyd, Heather Bailey, Elsie Hines and Margaret Gailey from Young defeated June Brownhill, Christine Hancock, Keryl McKellar and Ann-Marie Phillis from Harden 28-5.

The Boorowa Ex–Services team of Lisa Arber, Barbara West, Lorraine Bales and Yvonne Murphy defeated Karen Glover, Patricia Walker, Diana Walsh and Diane Peisley from Harden 28-8 in the other game.

The final was a much closer contest with the score at 10–all after 10 ends. The Young team scored 7 shots on the 14th end to lead 21-12.

Boorowa fought back and after 17 ends the score was 22–17 and either side could win.

Young did best over the remaining ends to win 29–17.

After some late changes to the entries there were only two teams contesting the Senior Division and this was played as a final on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams involved were Sheila Traynor, Ann Gardner, Jill Rosen and Robyn Apps from Young and Jan Slavin, Diana Buchanan, Freda Hambrook and Janice Roberts from Cootamundra Ex–Services.

After 9 ends the Cootamundra team were in front 8–7 and after 14 ends they led 11–10.

They won 3 of the final 4 ends to take out the game 15–11.

Congratulations to the winners of both divisions who have qualified for the Regional Finals to be played at Wagga RSL on 20th and 21st September.

The Young club is looking forward to our President’s Day that will be held on Thursday 14th September and we hope to have lots of visiting players.
