While Young Aquatic Centre farewelled one of its class leaders, it wanted to assure everyone that the low-cost aqua exercise classes would continue in 2023.

Trained volunteer leader, Lenore Schiller has been running aqua exercise classes in Young for many years now, supporting leaders Ann Sheehan, Peg Elliot and Julie Young. “We are sad to be losing one of our leaders, Julie Young, who is retiring and moving from Young to be closer to family,” Ms Schiller said.

“Her happy personality will be missed by our group. Ann, Peg and I continue to run the classes and we would love to invite everyone to come and join in the fun. The class is targeted to people over 40 but can be for all ages. We always have a great time and a good laugh.”

Exercising in water provides all the benefits of regular exercise and because the body is supported by water there’s less risk of muscle or joint injury during the exercises.People don’t need to be able to swim to join the class and the experienced leaders will ensure that everyone can work at their own pace and fitness level.

“People joining the class should bring a foam pool noodle if they have one, also sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water,” Ms Schiller said. “The excellent stairs into the pool make getting in and out of the pool comfortable and safe.”

The low-cost aqua exercise classes are run through Murrumbidgee Local Health (MLHD), which provides regular training as well as insurance to ensure the leaders are well-qualified and competent.

The classes are run at 10:30 am on Mondays and 8 am on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Participants are asked to take along a gold coin donation to each session.

Anyone interested in joining the Aqua Fitness class should contact Lenore Schiller on 0407 280 605.

A range of low-cost physical activity classes, including aqua exercise, gentle exercise and Tai Chi are provided across the district of MLHD’s trained volunteer leaders.
