The SWS Bank has signed on as the naming rights sponsor for this year’s National Cherry Festival.
SWS Bank CEO Andrew Jones said that the bank, which was formerly known as South West Slopes Credit Union, sponsoring the National Cherry Festival would be an opportunity to launch their rebranding.
“We’ve supported the Cherry Festival for many years, at various levels and when the opportunity came up this year to become the naming rights sponsors, we thought why not,” Mr Jones said
“We plan to be there at the head of the Cherry Festival Street Parade with 30odd staff.”
SWS Bank is Young’s local bank and has been for the past 52 years and as big banks withdraw from regional communities, Mr Jones said SWS Bank planned on sticking around and supporting the community that had supported them over the years.
“As a member-owned bank, we don’t pay large dividends to shareholders; we’re all about giving back to the community.”
“We call it our social dividend.”
“Last year we gave over $100,000 back to the community.”
The SWS Bank National Cherry Festival is just six weeks away - Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1 and promises another exciting, action-packed community event.
Hilltops Council Event Coordinator John Munnelly said this year’s National Cherry Festival would include the fashion competition for juniors.
“It will be the best dressed junior up to the age of 12 years,” Mr Munnelly said.
“They just rock up on the day, dressed in their favourite cherry-themed outfit and we’ll judge the best dressed.”
So, if you have a youngster with a bit of fashion flair, make sure they enter the Cherry Twirl competition at the 2024 SWS Bank National Cherry Festival.
