Sophie Grainger, from Young, travelled to Sydney to attend the Royal Easter Show to defend her title as Junior Judge of The Australian Stock Horse Association.
The young equestrian was nominated to contest the event in 2022 and achieved Champion which meant she had to compete again this year as the NSW representative.
She competed for the title against 23 other contenders. It was Ms Grainger’s first time back competing after smashing her elbow in a freak accident at school. She and her mother travelled to Sydney on Wednesday, April 5 to prepare for this year’s event.
Ms Grainger’s grandmother, Ann Sheehan said that as well as contending for the Junior Judge title, Ms Grainger had been preparing to compete on her three-year-old stockhorse, Brandwood Hermes (Harvey).
“Sophie has been preparing Harvey for this big event over the last 12 months,” Ms Sheehan said.
“She is a very dedicated young rider and is very appreciative of the help she has received along her journey as a young equestrian.”
Ms Grainger competed well last weekend, earning third place in the National Junior Judge of The Australian Stock Horse Association. Ms Sheehan said that her granddaughter also had minor placings in all of the events she competed in, but the big win was how well her young horse coped with the big atmosphere.
“Even the judges commented how sensible he was for such a young horse,” Ms Sheehan said. “Sophie and her mother came home very happy with how things went.”
