Young Hospital Auxiliary Gets Ready For Open Gardens
Enjoy a ramble through Rohine and Sumane Iyer’s Open Garden.
After a hugely successful Open Gardens event last year, the Young Hospital Auxiliary will be showcasing the variety and individuality of five district gardens again this year.
The gardens are a mix of small-town gardens, mid-size town-and-country to large, rolling rural gardens with wide vistas.
From 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday, November 5, the five gardens will be open to the public and ready to show their unique qualities to garden lovers across the district.
Admission is $5 per garden and all gardens will be identified by balloon markers.
The first garden belongs to Pat and Nigel Willet and is situated at 5 Samuel Court, Young.
Rohine and Sumane Iyer are the owners of the second garden at 62 Cherry Vale Place, Young. From Young, take Cowra Road left into Old Monteagle Road.
‘Tumbleton’ is the third garden owned by Tracy and Bruce Wilkinson at 402 Bibaringa Road, Wombat.
You’ll find it 2km past Wombat on Olympic Highway, left at Cemetary.
Refreshments, including a lunch box and tea/coffee will be available for $10 here.
Helen and Peter Hamblin’s Open Garden at 669 Back Creek Road, Young features a plant stall where you can pick up a new plant to take home to your own garden.
Rounding out the day, take a ramble around Dorothy and Rob Nash’s garden at 13 Jake Millar Place, Young and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at each of the open gardens and while you’re enjoying your cup of tea or coffee at the end of the day, the winning tickets will be drawn at 4:30 pm at Garden 5.
Auxiliary President, Janice Ward said the Open Garden event was one of the major fundraisers for the Auxiliary and she hoped this year’s event would attract locals and visitors.
“Their support would allow the Auxiliary to continue its program of providing equipment for the Young Health Service,” Ms Ward said.
