Janice Ottey wins first prize in Young Hospital Auxiliary’s raffle during its recent Open Gardens event.

Young Hospital Auxiliary members celebrated their extremely successful Open Gardens event, where they raised $8000 on the day, at their monthly meeting on Thursday, November 7.

Five interesting and very different gardens were opened to the public on Sunday, November 3. Monies raised on the day came from entrance fees, raffle, luncheon and morning and afternoon tea.

The Auxiliary President, Janice Ward reported that the event was extremely successful.

“We are over the moon at the community’s support for the day,” Ms Ward said.

“The funds raised will go to help purchase items for our health facility as identified by the staff.”

“Importantly, we are indebted to the owners who opened their gardens.”

“There was such a wonderful atmosphere at all the gardens with the owners talking to the visitors and, I’m sure, imparting worthy advice.”

“We also had tremendous help this year from the Young Garden Club with providing food and help manning the gates.”

“Many thanks to all those who helped out.”

Janice Ottey won first prize in the raffle, a painting by local artist Fran Caldwell.

Pauline Davidson won second prize which was donated by Forum 4.

Leanne Sell won third prize, a luxe cooler bag donated by Simple.

Francis Calvert won a beauty pack donated by Hamblin’s Amcal Chemist.

Sally Spackman won the Pink Pot Garden Spot prize and Simon Hobson won the garden design book donated by Glenice Buck.
