Hannington Sibanda, Aiden Gundersen and Joshua Sibanda give an outstanding performance in their game on Sunday, November 24.

It was a hot afternoon at Sawpit Gully Hockey Fields, making it a hard slog on the field for all teams on Sunday, November 24.

Young Combined Hockey Association Secretary Edwina Planten said it took teams a while to build up momentum while they adjusted to the heat, but as the games progressed there was some great hockey on display.

“The Dribblers found themselves short as they took the field against the energetic Goal Rush team,” Planten said.

“Lucky for them, Goal Rush were more than willing to lend a helping hand with an extra player or two.”

“Both teams were evenly matched, with Kyle McGovern and Matthew Hall making it hard for The Dribblers to get past their defence.”

“They also held strong in the middle with Lucy Dunk, Janice Dunk, and Steven Rudd moving the ball quickly down the field.”

“However, Brendan Sheppard managed to get past their defence, scoring the first goal in the first quarter.”

“Goal Rush fought back in the second quarter, with a beautiful pass finding Faith Freeman in front of an open goal.”

“She effortlessly trapped the ball, pushing it into the goal to even the score at 1:1.”

In the end, The Dribblers took the win with 3 goals to Gold Rush’s 1.

Brendan Sheppard, James Cronin and David Hall scored for The Dribblers while Faith Freeman scored for Goal Rush.

Panten said The Grass Gliders also found themselves short this week, missing key players which would make their task difficult.

“DTS were also short, however they stepped up to the challenge despite the heat,” Planten said.

“This game saw some amazing defence and tactical play, neither team making it easy for the other.”

“Cooper Saines had a fantastic game, using his skills and speed to outplay the opposition to score three goals for the Grass Gliders, while his team mate Addison Dovern scored their final goal.”

“DTS did not leave these goals unanswered, and they displayed great teamwork and skill moving the ball between them, allowing new-comer Bobby Simms to score two goals for the team.”

“They continued to fight and put away another four goals, giving DTS their first win for the competition.”

DTS were victorious over Grass Gliders, 6:4.

Isabelle Douglass, Michael Skillen, Jewel Bedford, Bobby Simms and Tracy Lamb scored for DTS, while Cooper Saines and Addison Dovern scored for Grass Gliders.

Planten said the score of the game between Tactical Tappers and Blade Runners did not do the game justice.

“The final game between Tactical Tappers and Blade Runners was fantastic to watch,” Planten said.

“Both teams started out strong.”

“Tactical Tappers moved the ball quickly with Harsukhmanjit Singh, Joshua Sibanda and Jude Sibanda working hard in the middle.”

“However, the Blade Runners held strong, often repelling the Tactical Tappers attempts at goal.”

“Donna Burns had a fantastic game in defence and Matilda Woodward, Aiden Gunderson, Izack and Elijah Meharg made it difficult for the Tactical Tappers.”

Chris Hosken and Bryce Weeden proved too strong in defence, ensuring Tactical Tappers won the game 7:1.

Hannington Sibanda, Josh Sibanda, Jude Sibanda, Harsukhmanjit Singh and Chris Hosken scored for the Tactical Tappers while Izack Meharg scored for the Blade Runners.
