The Annual Cherry Festival Women’s Triples Tournament took place at the Young Bowling Club Tuesday and Wednesday, 19/20 November. With 38 teams participating it was a very colourful scene with the 3 greens filled. Teams travelled from around the State from the North to the South Coast and East and West of Young.
Winners of the Triples Tournament were the team consisting of Jenny Clarke, Leanne Smith and Kim Suckley from Merrylands, Oak Flats and Wisemans Park with 4 wins and a margin of 51. There were no local place getters but Elsie Hines (Young), Sue Gault (Grenfell) and Moira Webster (Dapto) were first game winners.
In the Mixed Pairs Tournament on Friday and Saturday, 22/23 November, Vera and Rick Malley from Windang and Dapto took out the winning title with 5 wins and a margin of 51. Our very own Cliff and Sheila Traynor came in second place with 5 wins and a margin of 43. Sheila and Cliff were also awarded the June Brown Memorial trophy for the best performed local team.
It was a very successful tournament due to the outstanding help from the women and men of the Young Bowling Club.
