The Young Christmas Lunch organised for those in the community who might otherwise have had nobody to celebrate the festive season with has been hailed a huge success.

Organiser Melissa Martin said a few people cancelled leading up to the event and a few others failed to show up on the day, but she felt it was a huge success.

“The hall looked amazing thanks to a volunteer, Suzane and her family, with blue and white agapanthus, native bush, cherries, grapes and dried citrus decorations. The volunteers were absolutely amazing.”

“Everyone was so proactive and they got along and thanks to them the event was seamless.”

Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke donated an amazing treats platter at the last minute and Morgan and Kathie Garner both generously donated lovely cupcakes to add to everything that was donated by others in the community.

Leftover food was taken by guests and an array of leftover desserts and drinks were also taken to Young Hospital Emergency Department for staff to enjoy.

After a success like that, people are already looking forward to this year’s community Christmas luncheon.

A huge thank you goes out to the volunteers who gave their time and energy, local businesses and individuals who donated towards the meal, and Hennessy Catholic College who allowed the use of their hall for the event.
